Every great innovation starts off with a simple idea and each such idea needs guidance to improvise, finance to develop and an insight on the industry it addresses. This sums up the aims of IEEE Innovation Nation Sri Lanka (INSL) 2018 in providing the young entrepreneurs with essential training, mentorship and seed-funding in order to make way to successful entrepreneurs, hence, establishing the foundation for our nation’s prosperity.

IEEE INSL 2018 was opened to the youth of Sri Lanka a few months back and currently, the competition is successfully halfway through its training sessions after the preliminary round. The ten selected teams are being trained on different aspects of entrepreneurship and thus far we have covered areas such as Design thinking, Market Analysis, Business Models and Soft Skill Development. If you’re an enthusiast of these workshops, keep an eye on our social media feeds to join the future workshops.

IEEE Innovation Nation Sri Lanka 2018 will be unveiling its grand finale together with IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student/Young Professional/Women in Engineering Congress 2018. In the final round, the selected teams have to pitch and win their funding from the judges who may double as investors. Furthermore, this competition would be the opportunity for the investors to meet the true innovators of the current youth who have not only technical knowledge but the refined qualities of businesspersons that are needed in the industry.

IEEE INSL 2018 has been successfully making its stride to create all-rounded entrepreneurs and we hope we acquire the utmost cooperation from everyone to accomplish our cause.

IEEE Innovation Nation Sri Lanka 2018

FlyEEE 1.0 Drone Workshop

FlyEEE 1.0 Drone Workshop

IEEE Student Branch of University of Moratuwa, organized FlyEEE 1.0 for the first time with the aim of providing and enhancing the enthusiasm on modeling of drones, which is currently the most far gone technological invention.

FlyEEE 1.0 is a technical workshop which was organized with the utmost intention of enhancing and updating the technological knowledge of the undergraduates on this vastly improving field. Entire session was focused on three areas,

Basic tips and tools to build a drone

Mathematical modeling and development of drones

Applications, trends and future developing areas of drones

Moreover, it was an awareness session of the IEEE UoM student branch to magnetize the new members with pleasant attitudes towards the branch.

The event, contained two basic sessions, which were conducted on 23rd and 24th of May, 2018 from 5.00p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at JG hall with a participation over 120 students from both faculty of engineering as well as faculty of IT.

Day first was basically to provide the beginners with an idea about the application of drones and their basic construction. Mr. Aruna Jayasena, Mr. Akila Uyanwatte and Mr. Iresh Jayawardena was conducted sessions on the first day.

Second day was all about the mathematical modeling of drones. Engineer Janith Kalpa explained the mathematical model of the drone in detail meanwhile Mr. Tharindu Suraj clarified on sensor fusion of drones.

All the sessions were winded up with highly positive feedbacks and the main objective of FlyEEE 1.0, to make aware and motivate the undergraduates in the field of drones was accomplished. There were certain requests asking to conduct upcoming events as open events and also to conduct a drone competition. It is a great pleasure to mention that FlyEEE 1.0 became one of the most successful events conducted by IEEE student branch for the year 2018.

FlyEEE 1.0 Drone Workshop

Design Project Competition

Design Project Competition

IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter (SBC) of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of University of Moratuwa organized the EE Design Project Competition for the third consecutive year. The competition is organized with the purpose of rewarding and appreciating the students’ innovative skills and to inspire them in enhancing the design skills. This year, it was successfully held on July 17, 2018.

Design Project Competition open the path for semester three electrical engineering students of University of Moratuwa to help develop teamwork, innovation, choice of materials, survey skills, pricing and marketing skills and manufacturing through a simple engineering design. Each group with 3 members, identifies a significant engineering problem, proposes a solution and then proceeds to demonstrate feasibility of their solution through construction of a prototype.

Evaluation of the design project was done in two stages. In the first stage, best five projects were selected for the second round from 33 teams. In the second round, the selected teams had to do a presentation on survey results, specifications of the product and feasibility of introducing the product to the market. In this stage, three teams; winner, 1st Runner up, 2nd Runner up were chosen based on their performance, and they were awarded with certificates and cash prizes.

Design Project Competition

IEEE R10 HTC 2018

IEEE R10 HTC 2018
